New publishing business models as a result of Finch Report?

Prior to the Finch Report release there were some publisher policies –such as OUP’s– that aligned its journal subscription prices with take-up of the Open Access option by authors. However, as a result of both the UK Government and funders and the European Commission having firmly backed Gold Open Access publishing model, it’s foreseeable there will shortly be more testing around new business models that link subscription prices to institutional publication rates in Open Access or hybrid journals.

The recent -currently just-UK- RSC ‘Gold for Gold’ initiative provides a good example of how these new business models may support the transition process to Gold OA.
